Carriers & Label Formats
Reference for the Settings → Carriers screen — supported carriers, credentials, environments and service codes.
This is the reference for Settings → Carriers. For step-by-step setup walkthroughs per carrier, see Connect Carriers.
Supported Carriers
ReturnMate supports ten carriers:
| Carrier | Region |
|---|---|
| Australia Post | Australia |
| StarTrack | Australia |
| TNT | Australia |
| Team Global Express (TGE) | Australia |
| Mainfreight | Australia / New Zealand |
| NZ Post / CourierPost | New Zealand |
| FedEx | Global |
| UPS | Global |
| Canada Post | Canada |
| USPS | United States |
Adding a Carrier
- Go to Settings → Carriers
- Click Add Carrier and select the courier
- Enter the account and API credentials for that carrier (see below)
- Choose the Environment — Production or Test/Sandbox
- Configure Service Codes (see below)
- Tick Active, and optionally Set as default for this courier
- Save
Each configured carrier row offers Test Rate and Test Label actions so you can confirm credentials before going live. When editing a carrier, leave secret fields blank to keep the existing values.
At the top of the page you can also set an email address for carrier operations alerts (e.g. a pickup that was booked but never collected). Leave it blank to disable email alerts — the events still appear as internal notes on the RMA.
Credentials by Carrier
| Carrier | Credential fields | Extra configuration |
|---|---|---|
| Australia Post | Account Number (MyPost Business), API Key, API Secret (from MyPost Business → Settings → API Keys) | Optional Lodgement ID (MyPost Business lodgement facility) |
| StarTrack | Account Number (StarTrack), API Key and API Password — the same as your Australia Post API credentials | — |
| TNT | Account Number, Username, Password (TNT SOAP API) | Sender Code and 3-character Consignment Prefix (both from TNT onboarding, used for the RTT pricing API) |
| Team Global Express | Account Code, OAuth Client ID, OAuth Client Secret | Source System Code, Message Sender, Shipment ID Range (start/end), SSCC Range (start/end, without check digit), and Print API credentials: Print API Key, Print Call ID, Print Identity (X-MyToll-Identity), Print Token |
| Mainfreight | Account Code, API Key (from developer.mainfreight.com) — no API secret | Primary Region: Australia or New Zealand (determines label format and API routing) |
| NZ Post / CourierPost | Account Number, Client ID and Client Secret (OAuth2, from the NZ Post Developer Portal) | Site Code — your NZ Post pickup location identifier |
| FedEx | Account Number (9 digits), Client ID and Client Secret (FedEx Developer Portal) | Default Country (or auto-detect from addresses) |
| UPS | Shipper Number (6 alphanumeric), Client ID and Client Secret (UPS Developer Portal) | Default Country (or auto-detect from addresses) |
| Canada Post | Customer Number, API Userid and API Password (Canada Post Developer Program) | Contract ID (required for commercial rates) |
| USPS | EPS Account Number (10 digits), Consumer Key and Consumer Secret (USPS Customer Onboarding Portal) | CRID (Customer Registration ID) and MID (Mailer ID) |
StarTrack is part of Australia Post and shares its API platform. Configuring StarTrack requires an Australia Post API account — enter the same API Key and password you use for Australia Post, with your StarTrack account number.
Service Codes
Each carrier has two service code slots, each with a code, name and description:
- Inbound Service (Returns) — the carrier's product code used when customers send items back to you (e.g. Australia Post
PRParcel Return, StarTrackRET) - Outbound Service (Replacements/Repairs) — the product code used when you ship replacements or repaired items out (e.g. Australia Post
7J55Parcel Post, StarTrackEXPExpress)
The right codes depend on your carrier contract — your account manager or onboarding documentation lists which products are enabled for your account.
Environments
Each carrier can run in Production or Test/Sandbox mode. Use test mode with sandbox credentials while validating your setup; note that some carriers don't return a label PDF in their test environments even when credentials are working correctly.
Important Caveats
The Team Global Express API does not support label cancellation. If a TGE label needs to be cancelled, do it through the TGE portal or contact TGE directly.
Label Formats and Printing
Label printing is handled by print clients rather than the Carriers screen:
- Each print client has a Default Label Size — ZPL 4×6 (thermal), PDF 4×6 (thermal) or PDF A4 (office paper) — configured in Settings → Print Clients
- Device tag sizes are configured separately under Settings → Labels & Device Tags
- Labels can also be downloaded as PDFs and printed from the browser
